QUESTION:I have an eSATA port on my motherboard. I want to hookup USB 3 devices via this cable to the eSATA port on PC. Possible? ANSWER: I have not tried connecting a USB 3 device into an eSATA port, so I can't offer advice. Those already responding say this won't work. Also, remember this adapter will work fine for a connection with only 1 device. In my case I was connecting two external drives (in a BlackX Duet external Dock Station) via an eSATA connection into one USB3 port on my computer. For this to work the convertor cable or device must support the Port Multiplier protoco.
QUESTION: Can you use this to connect an external hard drive to a DirecTV box? ANSWER: I'm not sure but I will tell you this. Any HD connected to the STC, I bought the 2.5/3.5" SATA/IDE version, is recognized. It's basically an external HD. I would say yes. Just make sure the drive is powered!
QUESTION: does anyone know if this works with G-Technology drives? ANSWER: I was using it with my GTECH raid and single drives until the cable busted
FeedBack"Have an older Thermaltake BlacX HD SATA dock running USB 2.0, But it also has a eSATA interface. #s show some overhead from the eSATA/USB3.0 conversion but... Happy, happy, great results! 3tb wd green via this esata/usb3 cable 3tb mybook (wd green) via usb3 cable
"I had a 500GB hard drive sitting on my desk unused because the enclosure it was in had only USB2 speeds. I had never used the eSATA port on the enclosure so I took a chance and bought this cable. I was initially disappointed because the cable doesn't provide power. Only the data transfer bus. BUT! Once I powered it through the old USB2 port I was able to transfer files to this drive ridiculously fast compared to old transfer speeds. I really wanted to down vote the cable for not providing power, but a little research shows that it doesn't."
"This Adapter is amazingly fast. I use it to connect an external backup system that only has an eSATA connector; my new PC didn't come with an eSATA port. Rather than add a pass-through eSATA port, I decided to just use a USB 3.0 jack. I'm now getting consistent backup speeds north of 130 MB/second - faster than the pure eSATA-to-eSATA connection on the prior PC. I'm sure those slower old-PC speeds were related to non-cable factors, but I am pleasantly surprised by the blazing speeds using this cable. No drivers/no muss/no fuss (at least on Win10 Pro) - it just works like a hose (literally). Great stuff.!"
"Needed to convert my old cable box external hard drive to use with my Xbox. The ext HD had the old eSata port which no one uses any more and I’m so glad I was able to find this eSata to USB 3.0 conversion cable! Had to reformat the ext HD and now works perfectly with my Xbox."
"An external drive stopped functioning, called a repair guy I've sued before who advised me to give up, and tried various changes, concluding the problem was the USB connection. Decided to give this a try, connecting to the eSATA port on the drive to USB on the computer. Bingo! It worked. I still don't trust the drive but I was able to transfer all of the data to another drive without a hitch."
"I have several ESata backup drives and my new computers no longer have estate ports but do have usb3. I had previously purchased a cable with a box that did not work at all. So I tried this adpater. It works so perfectly. Backing up a computer right now. I am getting 90+ write speeds on computers with internal SSDs. I love it! Update on my Lenovo Yoga I am doing a backup and getting 177 mb/s write speeds with this cable."
