Question: Is backward compatible with USB 2?

Answer: Yes, is compatible. But you will lose performance.

"I have been using this almost every day since I got it and it's been working great. It is one of the first I have had that truly supports the USB C speeds. I use it to attach mainly an encrypted USB C DRIVE and keep 2 remaining USB C ports open. The added Ethernet connection works great in a bind. I was able to attach it to my Samsung S10 and use a wired connection with no problems. This was well-designed and well-made. They didn't try to make it too complicated and just perfectly functional. I love this device and would've known what to do without it now"  

"Reliable, all ports work together unlike the STC product I tried before. It does get warm perhaps more than I would like but it hasn’t affected performance. Gigabit Ethernet works at full speed. USB ports don’t interfere with each other with a USB sound interface attached to one of the ports even a single drop or delay would immediately become noticeable which was the issue I had with STC. I have been using it for about a month working from home every day. I will update the review if it develops issues after extended use. Gigabit works at full speed, USB flash drive read speed was less than 10% slower compared to Apple's standalone USB adapter"

"This device seems to be working perfectly. I'm using the Ethernet connection with a USB connection simultaneously with no problems. The Ethernet speed reports 1 Gbps. I have no way of measuring if the USB port is 3.0 or not but the USB connectors are blue which is the industry standard to indicate USB 3.0. There are no cool lights to indicate it's working though, so this fooled me at first. The only way you'll know it's working is by plugging something into one of the ports."

"I work with a newer model MacBook Pro and lost the ability to natively plug in USB A and ethernet cables. Most hubs I have seen and used in the past were either too bulky or not that good-looking. "This adapter is good for anyone who is looking for something that will bring functionality to their computer in a clean and compact package. After previously buying another adapter that only had two USB ports I quickly found out I needed more. As a Macbook Pro user who uses their laptop in clamshell mode (closed and connected to an external monitor) two of the USB ports were already used up by my keyboard and mouse which meant I could never have a hard drive or phone plugged into my computer at the same time. With this adapter, I got a small, portable, and sturdy adapter that gives me an additional port as well as an ethernet cable. With its small cable, it is great for my use case but it wouldn't hurt if it was a tad bit longer. For under $10, I feel like this is a good purchase for anyone who is trying to add more USB port functionality and ethernet to their computer or is a MacBook owner like me and has none of those."

"This simple ethernet dongle is only slightly bigger than dongles with just a single ethernet port, but has space for 3 USB ports! The gray color is darker than the MacBook Pro space gray if you care, but personally, the darker gray is nicer. The braided cable is great and does not get tangled. The speed test I ran shows that it can reach high speeds and is great for Zoom video calls. However, if you need other ports like SD card or HDMI, I would get a bigger dongle with more ports."
