Customer Questions & Answers Question: Has anyone tried using this with a Linux OS? Which part is not compatible? Answer: This works fine with Linux. I have not tested the network or VGA but the ports are fine. Question: I will use a MacBook Pro. if I connect two external monitors to this dock and shut the lid on the Macbook, can I extend the two external displays? Answer: No. You cannot extend the external displays. The only display that can be different is the MacBook screen. The other two must be the same, even if the screen is closed. Question: Can the 3rd display be via USB-C instead of VGA? Answer: Yes, it will work. I’m using 2xHDMI via a hub and 3rd via my PC’s port directly. If your PC supports MST then yes. PS: I use Thunderbolt 3 to hook up the hub so technically I can add another low-resolution monitor.
Customer Feedback "I've tried this on both my Chromebook as a personal computer and my Macbook Pro as my work computer. Both computers work flawlessly with this device. Design: It fits nicely in your hand with a good heft. The metal is a nice gunmetal grey. The ports are inlet a bit to give it a nice interior bevel which also lends it a nice feel in the hand. The underside has two rubber bars which keep the thing where you put it. The ports - they're fine. There are two USB 2 A and two USB 3 A ports, I always wondered why not just make them all USB 3 A but whatever. They're both color-coded correctly - black is 2 and blue is 3. There are also two USB C ports - one on the other side, two HDMI, and two card readers. It's pretty much got everything. VGA output - I don't have a VGA monitor to test this with, so nice to have, but not sure how relevant this is going to be in the future. I bought it for the USB C and HDMI ports anyway. The VGA port doesn't have the thumbscrew holes to secure the cable to the dock but nothing screws into anything anymore anyway."
"The first thing I noticed when I took this product out of its box was the solid metal casing, you can tell this felt like a quality product. It has 6 USB ports: 2 regular high-speed USB and 2 USB-C (one of which is used as the power source). The beauty of this product is that it clears up so much wire clutter because the only connection going to the computer is one USB-C cable! I was at first disappointed at the notion of these new Macbooks doing away with the old USBs and only having 2 USB-C ports but now I'm sold on the concept when you have accessories like this USB hub. Also, I was initially hesitant about this product because I was looking for a USB-C hub that was directly attached to the side of the MacBook, extending the base of the laptop. But I am so glad I got this instead because the wired connection to the laptop allows me to place the hub behind my laptop and free up the clutter from interfering with my workspace. It delivers full speed and power to all the connections. I can use multiple connections simultaneously without any interruptions or problems. Some of the USB hubs out there have port connections that didn't make sense to me. I chose this one because not only does it have the essential USB ports that are needed but also two HDMI ports! Delivers 4K resolution to my monitors beautifully. It also has an SD and microSD slot reader, which I haven't needed to use but I can see its utility in transferring photo data from cameras. As far as installation, it was a nonissue- simply plug and play."
"This hub was working great for the last three weeks with my Google Pixelbook and two LG 27" monitors. Easy to use, power pass through, external wireless keyboard and mouse.... until today. When I went to boot everything up the external monitors weren't working. I rebooted everything and still no go. The Pixelbook wouldn't even recognize the monitors. I unplugged one of the monitors and with just one monitor it started working. But even that stopped working after about an hour."
"STC is a quality-oriented brand and they make amazing technological gadget needs. This time I am very happy with the purchase. The design is very stylish and has 12 ports to satisfy all your needs. This device is a must-have for MBPs due to the lack of ports. It combines everything you need into a small but very useful device. No more hassle of having to carry all sorts of connectors, card readers, dongles, etc. Hoorays! It's light and small, and it's very easy to travel with. The HDMI VGA USB Ethernet ports all work perfectly! I have been carrying this item around with me very often"
