What is the use of serial card?

Types of multi-serial cards

There are two types of multi-serial cards, one is PCI interface and the other is PCI-E interface. They are generally distributed on computer motherboards and have single or multiple slots. Multi-serial cards are widely used in banking, finance, securities, In fields such as telecommunications and industrial control, it is an important hardware component of computer multi-user communication control systems. First of all, the two expansion slots have different transfer rates. The maximum data transfer rate of the PCI slot is 133MB/sec (32-bit) and 266MB/sec (64-bit), while the PCI-E slot can currently reach a maximum of more than 10GB/s. 

Secondly, the specifications are different. The PCI slot has only one specification, while the PCI-E slot has 7 specifications of X1 (250MB/sec), X2, X4, X8, X12, X16 and X32 channels.

Finally, the bus types are different. The PCI slot is an expansion slot based on the PCI local bus, while the PCI-E slot is the latest bus and interface standard. Its original name is "3GIO", which was proposed by Intel. Obviously Intel means that it represents the next generation of I/O interface standards. It was renamed "PCI-Express" after being certified and released by PCI-SIG (PCI Special Interest Group).
