SATA3.0 interface
Serial ATA International (SATA-IO) officially released the new version of "SATA Revision 3.0" in 2009.
Special Note: The full English name of the new specification is "SerialATA Revision 3.0 specification", the Chinese name is "Serial ATA Specification Third Edition", SATA Revision 3.0 is the only correct English wording, not allowed to be abbreviated as SATA 3.0, "Gen3" The (third generation) typeface is for technical use only and should not be used for actual product naming and marketing.
Basic introduction
Serial ATA International (SATA-IO) officially released the new version of "SATA Revision 3.0" in 2009, which is mainly to double the transmission speed to 6Gbps, and is backward compatible with the old version of "SATA Revision 2.6" (also known as SATA 3Gbps). ), the interface and data lines have not changed.
Pay attention
The full English name of the new specification is "SerialATA Revision 3.0 specification", the Chinese name is "Serial ATA Specification Third Edition", SATA Revision 3.0 is the only correct English wording, and does not allow abbreviated as SATA 3.0, "Gen3" (third The word "generation" is for technical use only and should not be used for actual product naming and marketing.
However, when emphasizing the transmission speed, the term "SATA 6Gbps" is allowed. The complete product name at this time should be "SATA 6Gbps".
The main new features of the SATA Revision 3.0 specification:
1. Provides 6Gbps speed link speeds between storage units, disk drives, optical and tape drives, and host bus adapters (HBAs) and guarantees new network performance levels. Of course, 6Gbps (750MB/s) is only a theoretical value. In fact, the speed at which the SATA interface sends information is 600MB/s. Due to the influence of various components of the system, the actual speed will be lower, and the difference in environment will be large.
2, the new native instruction ordering (NCQ) serial instructions, for audio and video applications that require a lot of bandwidth, to ensure the synchronization of data transmission.
3. NCQ management function optimizes performance by performing host processing and management on unexecuted NCQ instructions.
4. Improve power management functions.
5. Small low-input (LIF) connectors for compact 1.8-inch storage devices.
6. A connector designed to accommodate a 7 mm optical drive in a lighter, thinner notebook.
7. Comply with the INCITS ATA8-ACS standard.
8. Full backward compatibility. When the new specification product is connected to the old specification product, the speed will automatically drop to 3Gbps or 1.5Gbps.
SATA-IO also said that the third edition of the specification is only for the internal SATA interface, and the updated version of the SATA Revision 3.1 will focus on increasing the speed of the eSATA external interface to 6 Gbps and solving the external interface. Durability (number of insertions and removals), stability and scalability under longer data lines.
