Customer questions & answersQUESTION: Are these better than the ones that catch on fire? Almost burned my house down because of faulty adapter cable.. ANSWER: Just remember the "Molex to SATA, lose all your data" rule and try to avoid these adapters at all costs, even buying a PSU with more SATA as an alternative. If you gamble with Molex to SATA, it's best to look for ones that are crimped instead of plastic molded (as the molding process can merge connections unintentionally underneath the casing due to pressure and heat involved). Unfortunately, this item is of the molded type.
QUESTION: Are these cables 4-pin Male to sata? I don't want 4pin molex female. Thx. ANSWER: The Molex side is male, as pictured. The pins are a bit enclosed, but they should connect to the 4-pin headers from a power supply.
QUESTION: is this recomended for an nzxt 2.0 hub? ANSWER: Yes.
QUESTION: I want to use this for GPU Mining. Will this catch on fire if I connect it to my GPU? I heard the cheaper ones catch on fire. ANSWER: RESPONSE FROM MANUFACTURER-CABLE MATTERS: Thanks for asking. This cable supports 5V SATA drives (not 3.3V) and 12V ATX power supplies. Please check the rating of your GPU miner. FeedBack"I can never have enough of these things. When upgrading some older machines or turning spare parts into a HTPC or NAS, the power supplies may only have one or two SATA connectors and I'll be digging through my parts bins for some of these adapters. I bought a couple packs of these and they're exactly as they should be. I'm assuming the posts about fires are from GPU miners using SATA poweres risers. SATA has a 4.5 amp draw design limit (54 watts on the 12 volt, far shy of a PCIe connectors 75) and using a Molex > SATA > PCIe riser setup has so many connection points to go wrong...I don't know why anyone would try it. If you're using your machine to mine, spend a little extra on a proper setup or be absolutely certain your GPU doesn't try and pull more than 54 watts from the slot."
"These adapters are specifically to take an old-style PC power connector, and shift it up to work with SATA drives and such. The 4-pin pegs were wobbly--a problem I remember from the golden age of tech support, when I had to build my own cables for such simple things as this--when I was initially trying to plug them into the extra power supplies of my PC's power supply, but once you got the poles in the holes, the connector went together snugly, and all of them worked a charm. I now officially have too many hard drives in my poor, panting PC. On the other hand, if I wasn't supposed to _use_ those connectors, then the power supply manufacturer shouldn't've tempted me with 'em. "
"I needed these to power a couple of HGST He10 HUH721010ALE604 Hard Drives because they feature a new power feature that a standard SATA power cable isn't compatible with. I connected a new molex cable to my power supply and simply added these Molex to SATA adapters and the two drives finally spun up. So far I'm very happy with these adapters. No complaints. I like the packaging Cable Matters uses. I've been very happy buying their products in the past."
"I purchase several things on Amazon, and was giving pretty in-depth reviews. From this point on, here's the new agenda…. if it works as advertised, is well made, meets or exceeds the description, is a value, and arrives in a fair amount of time, it will get a "star rating" equal to what my expectations were/are. If it doesn't meet these criteria, then I will most definitely and descriptively tell the short comings of the products and you as a consumer will not have to go through the trouble of buying the product without some background knowledge. If the sell pulls that item and relists under another description I will put the exact same review on the seller's feedback page. Seller's have done this a couple of times in the past, and I was true to my word then as well as now. DR"
"These sort of cables are really handy to have around converts a molex connector into sata. So if your using an old power supply and are of need of some few sata power connectors this 3 pack is for you. I don't understand why they just manufacture PSU with no molex and no floppy cable connectors but I suppose this technology is slow to under go innovation. These work just fine."
"This adapter cable arrived really fast. I installed it and it worked perfectly. So far so good, we'll see how it holds uo. I looks like it is well mad with good material. With no moving parts I would expect it to last a long time"
